DENTAL VENEERS IN TURKEY

Dental veneers are very thin covers that get placed on the front side of the teeth.

Veneers serve typically for restoring the natural and attractive look of the teeth, so they get normally attached to the upper teeth only. Yet, the patient may undergo veneer installation on both jaws but only in the smile zone, or even opt for a whole-mouth set of veneers.

TYPES OF VENEERS

  • Porcelain. The manufacturing of porcelain veneers can occur in one of the two ways: by either treating the teeth with medical porcelain and then exposing it to burning, or pressing porcelain mass in the presence of high temperatures and under high pressure until its shape is identical to that of the dental mold. Pressed ceramics are known to possess unique physical characteristics: it is extremely robust and durable. Notwithstanding the manufacturing technique, porcelain veneers look very much like natural teeth and preserve their original appearance for several years.
  • Zirconium. This material used to be rather popular for making jewelry, and scientists found it out to be a viable alternative for manufacturing dental veneers. Such shells include a zirconium dioxide frame covered with porcelain mass. The production of zirconium veneers implies using high-precision robotized equipment that allows eliminating possible manufacturing faults. Thanks to such an approach, zirconium shells have a perfect shape and adhere to the teeth tightly. The main strong points of such veneers are their durability and high bio-compatibility.
  • Special ceramics. This material is used in the US for producing patented laminated veneers, or Hollywood lumineers – ultra-thin and strong dental covers. One of the amazing advantages of this technology is the opportunity to avoid tooth facing before placing lumineers, and that is why such shells are also called “no-prep veneers” and boast quick installation. Lumineers are quite strong and totally bio-compatible, don’t get discolored with time, and can be removed if necessary.

ARE DENTAL VENEERS EXPENSIVE?

The price of dental veneers depends highly on where you choose to undergo dental treatment. Foreign countries charge from $800 to $2,500 per tooth while in Medica Smile clinics in Turkey (Antalya, Marmaris, Fethiye, Istanbul) veneers can be installed at as little as $200 per tooth. Most importantly, the whole set of veneers in our dental centres will cost about 10 times less than in Europe, in the US, or in Great Britain.

Our dentists work with all types of porcelain, zirconium, and ceramic veneers (including Emax shells which are known to be very reliable and are, therefore, becoming increasingly popular). To find out more about our dental services and prices, please see our pricelist.

PORCELAIN OR COMPOSITE? WHAT’S THE LIFETIME OF VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are very strong and reliable and serve up to 15 years. No-prep lumineers are a more economical option but their lifetime is 7 years or below. If you are looking forward to long-term reliability and the best price/quality ratio, then porcelain veneers would definitely be the wisest choice.

It should also be kept in mind that porcelain shells get less frequently damaged by solid foods.

DIRECT OR INDIRECT TECHNOLOGY?

The manufacturing technology has a direct impact on the durability of dental veneers and on the time required for their production and installation.

Due to being manufactured in lab conditions, indirect shells are extremely strong and, therefore, have a longer service time. As for direct veneers, they get shaped and attached right in the patient’s mouth, so the dentist has an opportunity to adjust them in the process of their installation. Moreover, direct shells do not require extensive tooth facing, which allows preventing high dental sensitivity.

WHO CAN OPT FOR VENEERS AND WHAT ARE THEIR ADVANTAGES?

Dental veneers are typically recommended to patients with the following dental problems:

  • dark enamel;
  • spots, chips, cracks, and other defects which make your smile look less attractive;
  • deep nicotine stains;
  • chip-prone enamel;
  • age-specific enamel loss;
  • gaps;
  • slightly misshapen teeth.

The key advantage of dental veneers is that they do not get discolored or stained and preserve their initial shape. This means that your smile will look regular and beautiful over a prolonged period of time.

Patients with veneers do not have to undergo tooth bleaching, and their teeth remain protected from cavities and various damages. Besides, veneers are a very flexible solution since they can be installed on any number of teeth according to the patient’s desire and needs.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Just like any dental intervention, the installation of veneers is associated with the following absolute contraindications:

  •  bruxism (teeth grinding);
  •  malocclusion;
  •  cavities or poor oral hygiene;
  •  overbite.

Relative contraindications for dental veneers include crooked teeth. Dental shells are very efficient when it comes to hiding minor irregularities but if your teeth are severely misshapen, the dentist will recommend that you should undergo a more comprehensive dental treatment.

INSTALLATION OF VENEERS: MAIN STAGES AND THEIR DURATION

Before veneers are installed, you have to undergo oral sanitation during which the doctor will remove cavities, plaque, and calculus. Your teeth must be healthy and clean.

STAGE 1

Digital modeling

At this stage, the dentist elaborates digital impressions that will serve for manufacturing future veneers. The impressions take into account the patient’s bite, shape and orientation of the teeth, facial features, and the way he or she smiles. After the digital model is ready, you will be able to visualize your future smile on the screen, get an idea of how your face will look like once the shells are installed and, if necessary, introduce some changes.

STAGE 2

Teeth preparation

The placement of veneers requires performing tooth facing: a thin layer of enamel (0.2-0.6 mm) is going to be removed from the teeth that are going to be covered by dental shells. In the course of the teeth preparation, the dentist will make tiny vertical and horizontal pits on the enamel which serve for ensuring better attachment of veneers due to the contact surface increase. Depending on the patient’s desire, the doctor can recommend a local anesthesia.

If some of the shells are to be placed on crooked teeth, such dental units will be faced to a higher degree so that they do not protrude after the veneers are installed.

STAGE 3

Control impressions pickup and creation of shells

After the facing is over, control dental impressions are picked up and sent to the laboratory experts who will use them to manufacture veneers. In the meantime, temporary plastic shells get attached that serve for helping the patient get used to his or her new smile. Within the first week after the temporary veneers are installed, the doctor may introduce minor adjustments to the shape of your veneers. The manufacturing of permanent shells takes up to two weeks.

STAGE 4

Installation

Once your veneers are ready, the temporary covers get removed and replaced with the permanent ones with the use of special removable glue. If the result is satisfactory, the veneers get attached permanently.

DO I NEED TO WHITEN MY VENEERS?

dental veneers color tones

Many patients reckon that composite veneers that have slightly discolored can be bleached just like natural enamel. Yet, composite is not very responsive to whitening substances, and such a procedure can damage your shells. That is why patients should always consult their dentist before having their veneers whitened.

Still, the appearance of veneers can be improved to a certain extent.

Professional cleaning is quite helpful in removing superficial stains, so do not forget to pay visits to your dental clinic at least two times a year.

In case your veneers have discolored considerably, the dentist may recommend replacing them with new ones.

VENEER CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Most types of veneers serve for many years without changing their appearance to the smallest extent but this requires taking adequate care of your dental shells. Dentists suggest treating veneers just like natural enamel, so try to avoid tooth-staining foods and drinks which include coffee, tea, curry, berries, and balsamic vinegar.

A toothbrush and toothpaste are indispensable for patients who are unwilling to eliminate certain foods from their diet but still want to protect their veneers from discoloring. Besides, meticulous teeth cleaning helps remove bacteria that congregate on your teeth, gums, tongue, and on the inner surface of your cheeks. When unable to clean your teeth, opt for a special mouthwash or clean water.

Dental veneers are a quick and convenient way to regain a radiant smile but they need to be properly taken care of. Avoid brightly colored foods and drinks, clean your teeth twice a day, and visit your dentist once in every 6 months for a regular checkup and a professional tooth cleaning, and then your veneers will serve you faithfully for many years to come.
