DENTAL IMPLANTS IN TURKEY: PRICES, PROCEDURE, TREATMENT ABROAD

dental implants types

Dental implantation is one of the most efficient and reliable techniques for restoring missing teeth. Dental implants are small titanium pins that get installed within the jawbone (this is why they are sometimes called “intraosseous implants”). They get gradually covered by the jawbone tissues and serve as a root that will hold a future artificial crown. This technique is much more reliable and safe than a classical approach which consists in attaching dental prostheses to the neighboring teeth and requires facing them to a certain extent.

Immediate load

immediate load single dental implant

Immediate load, or single-stage dental implantation, is a medical technique that implies placing the artificial crowns as early as on the 2nd or 3rd day after the roots are installed. Most often, immediate load techniques are recommended if several or all the teeth are missing while the patient suffers a particular degree of jawbone atrophy (mild, medium, or severe). Such a disorder develops in case a missing tooth does not get restored for 1-2 years or more, or if the patient wears a removable prosthesis.

All-on-4 dental implants

all on four dental implant

As suggests the name of this implantation technique, it requires placing four dental implants that will subsequently support the whole artificial row of teeth. Two of them get placed in the front of the mouth while the remaining two implants get installed at an angle in the side areas (in the place of the 5th or the 6th tooth). Such an approach allows selecting the zones with the widest bone tissue and increasing the contact area between the artificial roots and the jawbone.

All-on-4 dental implants consist of two elements. The first one is the artificial root itself that gets installed within the jawbone through a small cut in the gum and becomes invisible from outside. The second element is the crown, or abutment. In contemporary Turkish dentistry multi-unit abutments are used that maintain a straight position while being placed on an inclined root.

The biggest advantage of the all-on-4 implantation is the reduced number of dental implants which makes the procedure less traumatizing. Such a surgery allows restoring the aesthetic appearance of the smile and the make the teeth fully functional as quickly as possible.

All-on-6 dental implants

all on six dental implant

The all-on-6 implantation is a more recent version of the all-on-4 protocol. It involves placing 6 implants, two of them being installed in the front area and the other four – in the said areas, in pairs. An increased number of roots makes the prosthesis more stable, thus helping the bone receive the entire load.

Another difference of the all-on-6 protocol is a modified design of the implants. They are single-piece units with an innovative type of the screw thread. Being installed in the deeper (and wider) layers of the jawbone tissue, such implants also affect the cheekbone and the lines of force of the cranium and feature a higher degree of strength and primary stability.

Finally, all-on-6 dental implants are sterile, which brings the risk of infection close to zero and allows performing such an intervention even if the patient suffers the periodontal tissue inflammation.

3-on-6 dental implants

The 3-on-6 full-mouth restoration was proposed in 2015 by Dr. Randy Roberts, DDS, who was in search of an implantation solution for patients who lamented the inconvenience or price of other techniques. This method implies installing six implants per jaw and loading them with three bridges.

The 3-on-6 dental prostheses feel very comfortable and enable the patient to eat and speak normally. They create a natural and beautiful smile and require no special oral hygiene except from daily brushing and flossing.

WHY 3-ON-6 IS BETTER THAN ALL-ON-4?

  • Three bridges instead of one single-piece denture;
  • No artificial gum line;
  • More natural look;
  • No need to remove the prostheses to clean the teeth;
  • No need to undergo professional tooth cleaning regularly (huge economy);
  • Higher stability;
  • Lower replacement costs (if needed).

WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS FOR PLACING DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implantation is recommended to patients who suffer various degrees of edentia:

  • loss of one or several teeth;
  • absence of several adjacent teeth;
  • absence of back teeth;
  • total absence of teeth.

IMPLANTS’ SERVICE TIME

Dental implants can serve for up to 20 years. Their service time depends not only on the quality of the treatment but also on the patient’s general state of health and oral hygiene adequacy. Another factor is where the implant is installed. For instance, dental implants in the front of the mouth are subject to a smaller occlusion load so they typically serve longer than back implants that are regularly engaged in masticating the food.

ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implantation has the following indisputable advantages:

MAIN STAGES OF THE DENTAL IMPLANTATION

STAGE 1

Preparatory stage

Before starting the implantation, the dentist has to verify that the patient has no contraindications for undergoing such a procedure, and that the patient’s dental situation justifies the recourse to such a solution. To do that, the doctor performs an oral examination and its obligatory sanitation. Then the patient undergoes several laboratory tests including the coagulation test (shows the blood’s ability to clot), blood glucose test, biochemical profile, tests for HIV, Hepatitis, and syphilis, as well as the general urine test. Other compulsory procedures include jaw radiography, CT scanning, and orthopantomography: they allow assessing the quality of the bone tissue and detecting possible bone pathologies.

STAGE 2

Bone tissue buildup

This stage is required if the patient’s bone volume is insufficient for placing the artificial roots or is likely to cause their future rejection or instability. The bone reconstruction can be performed with the use of several techniques, including the introduction of a bone-forming unit.

STAGE 3

Implant installation

Once the oral cavity is duly prepared, the dentist installs the artificial roots, which is a relatively quick procedure.

STAGE 4

Gingival former fixation

In case of a classical two-stage treatment, the doctor fixes the gingival former that serves for creating a new natural-looking gum line. Such a procedure takes place 3-6 months after the root installation.

STAGE 5

Abutment installation

The artificial roots get covered by crowns approximately two weeks after the gingival former is introduced. In case of one-stage tooth restoration, abutments get placed as soon as 3-4 days after the implantation. The crowns get manufactured with the use of the patient’s dental imprints which enable the new artificial teeth to assume all the functions of the missing natural ones. The abutments get placed upon the implants with the use of special adhesive substance.

STAGE 6

Rehabilitation

This is the period of time between the end of the procedure and until the implants’ survival is over. The patient is required to perform due oral care and visit the doctor regularly to check the state of the implant. The duration of the rehabilitation is different in each specific case and depends on the implantation technique and on the patient’s general state of health.

Side effects

Like any medical intervention, dental implantation is associated with certain side effects. Most common complications include persistent painful sensations, and swelling in the spot where the implant has been installed.

Other possible problems include mild bleeding and the formation of a lump due to the gum healing process.

Basic post-surgery recommendations

Most patients are preoccupied with how dental implants must be taken care of. As a rule, only 5% of patients who have had their implants installed experience complications. Yet, in order to minimize the risk of undesired problems, each patient is required to follow the below-listed recommendations during the first 3 days after the intervention:

  1. Be careful when cleaning your teeth to avoid damaging the gum that is close to the implants.
  2. Avoid excessive chewing loads. Chew the food on the untreated part of the jaw or choose soft foods.

Most importantly, patients should observe all the other recommendations provided by the dentist: take antibiotics and painkillers, rinse the mouth regularly, etc. Please keep in mind that only your doctor, being fully familiar with your dental situation, can give you the exact instructions as to how to take care of your oral cavity after the implantation.

DENTAL IMPLANTS CARE

There are three major groups of measures aimed at taking care of dental implants:

  • Home teeth cleaning;
  • Mouth rinsing and irrigating;
  • Professional cleaning at the dentist’s office each 6 months.

Each patient that has undergone the dental implantation is strongly recommended to follow all the above-mentioned rules. To make your dental care more efficient, do not forget to purchase the following dental accessories: a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a dental floss. And do not forget to visit your doctor regularly.

How to clean dental implants?

The key factor for the successful survival and service of dental implants is proper oral hygiene. Contemporary producers offer an impressive range of toothbrushes, including classical and electric ones. If you have undergone dental implantation, choose a soft-bristled toothbrush that does not damage the mucous membrane of your mouth.

It is also a good idea to purchase an interproximal toothbrush with a set of special heads. They are very efficient in cleaning hard-to-get-to interdental spaces and are typically I-shaped or L-shaped.

After the healing period is over, you will be able to take care of your teeth just as if you had no implants installed. Dentists recommend brushing the teeth by sweeping, vertical, and circular movements for at least 2 minutes. You may also find it handy to use an irrigator – a special device that generates flow water (or special cleaning liquid) under pressure and helps clean the teeth more efficiently. Finally, a dental floss is recommended for a more meticulous cleaning of interdental spaces without affecting the gums.

Dental implants are recommended to patients with missing teeth, gaps, or an irregular smile. However, sometimes dental implantation may require additional preparatory manipulations, including bone grafting or sinus lifting.

Dental implants can be received by any patient with an overall good state of health and sufficiently thick bone tissue. Age limits are also not applicable, with the only exception being adolescents since they may not have fully-fledged bone tissue yet.

Patients with total adentia are recommended to opt for the all-on-6 protocol. It consists in installing 6 implants along the upper and the lower jaw, which will subsequently hold the entire set of artificial crowns (14 units for each of the jaws).

In case of bone insufficiency in any of the jaws, or if the patient is unwilling to install implants, our doctors may recommend considering a denture. More details about this dental treatment technique can be found on our website.

The number of implants to be installed depends on the degree of your adentia. If the patient has no teeth on any of the jaws, the doctor will suggest placing 12 to 14 implants. As for gaps in teeth, in such a case as few as 2 implants are usually enough. The exact number of artificial roots you need will be determined by your dentist after the analysis of your X-ray and visual examination.

The installation of implants is performed in the presence of local anaesthesia which means that you won’t feel your mouth during the intervention. The doctor will also prescribe efficient painkillers to be taken for several days after the surgery to eliminate painful sensations.

It’s common knowledge that dental treatment in Turkish clinics costs much less than in other countries, including the UK. The reason is that the expenses of dental clinic owners and the overall cost of leaving are much lower in Turkey, and that is why we can help you undergo the most high-quality dental implantation at affordable prices.

Dental implantation comprises two stages, so you’ll have to visit Turkey twice. Each visit should last at least five days. After the visit you’ll return to your country with a temporary prosthesis that has to be worn for 3 to 6 months, depending on your bone tissue condition. Once the healing period is over, you’ll be required to come back for the treatment to be completed. Many patients prefer minimizing their treatment period and make their second visit to the clinic as soon as 3 months after the implant placement is over. However, you may also choose to wait for 6-12 months and come back when you feel most comfortable to proceed with your treatment.
